New Veil of Thorns album: Venerating Skin
VEIL OF THORNS BRINGS THE SOUNDTRACK FOR THE NECROFUTURE WITH VENERATING SKIN
It is the long standing habit of Veil of Thorns to gaze into the abyss of the human psyche until the Abyss imparts its secrets out through their sonic art. Venerating Skin shows how P. Emerson Williams and his community of Necrofuturists will spend the oncoming apocalypse, weaving the chaos of collapse into visions of art.
Concluding a cycle born of meditations on creative consciousness dissolution, desert landscapes and reaching the point where sanity no longer serves one, Venerating Skin comes forth like a transmission of cataclysm endured.
Revolution noise dissolves into static, static into the sight of the flashing, blinding light that weaves into your particles and carries them off into the cold void. The succession of images that gave the illusion of movement go up in an instant. That spark that lit them was the only thing ever to illuminate them.
After the inferno, the ever-lasting cold.
About Veil of Thorns:
Veil of Thorns is an ever evolving concept born of the fevered brain of P. Emerson Williams. Among the growing list of collaborators one can find authors, actors and musicians of many genres, reflecting the scope of what P. Emerson Williams calls Necrofuturist art.
Veil Of Thorns are beyond anything you have experienced and combines so much to make quite a unique sound. - Culture Asylum Magazine
Just when you have become used to experiencing your guitar stimulants, your ethereal relaxants, your electronic placebo, along comes Doctor Thorns, like a knight in deliberately ill-fitting armour and bellows ‘No more!’ causing all patients to fall from their beds. Where a lot of old-school Industrialists make deliberately obscure, ugly amateurish trash and new Industrialists churn out whatever club-friendly sounds they hope will land them a big record deal, there are some artists wading sternly through the same muddy waters with more artistic sensibilities. Veil Of Thorns may make threatening music but it is not without gentler asides, and often presents itself in alluring form. - Mick Mercer

Veil of Thorns - Dosage
In a society racing towards oblivion, its machinic egregoreplex advances control processes that are ultimately futile. The psyche breaks down under the strain and reconfigures as a medium for an alien intelligence. The demonic is a manifestation of future shadow selves transmitted from down the darkest timeline. Society shapes itself to bring this potential into being.

New Veil of Thorns Interview with Robex Lundgren
P. Emerson Williams - Veil of Thorns |
What made you call the band "Veil of Thorns"? It came from a line of thought about the nature of space-time in gnostic cosmology, the Demiurge, Jaldaboath and Maya (illusion, or delusion - Sanskrit माया) in Vedic literature. Socialization and quirks of language can make for illusory views of reality and being and tearing aside the illusion can cause pain. Hence the Veil and the Thorns.
How was the band formed? It was back in Boston in the early -90's. I was jamming with a powerful and inventive drummer who had graduated from Berklee School of Music. People would come and go and we would have some of the most intense jam sessions with no thought of genre or aesthetic. After some time Catherine Chenoweth stepped in to play bass and something clicked. Her playing was really solid and hard hitting. Just the thing to drive the momentum and groove as I was freed to experiment with what sounds my guitar could be capable of producing. We decided to form a band and brought in Ruddy Bitch and Jarrett Laitinen to complete the first lineup.

Necrofuturist Transmission #45 - The Result Was Necro Sapiens
The Gothnunnaki leaders found the new beings to meet their specifications and put them to work in the mines and elsewhere in their colonies, which included ancient Necropotamia. The first men worked for their goths. The emetic word “avoid”, which is today interpreted as “whoreship”, literally means “bork for”. That was the beginning of the relationship between necromen and goths. The first necromen did not whoreship their goths, they corked for them.

GOTHRONOMICON
Veil of Thorns - GOTHRONOMICON CD $12.00 + S&H |
The dreaded GOTHRONOMICON has been brought to us and is being translated by mute scribes and the content held therein tested by fearless and skilled mages, though a few have been lost between space...
We have a tip on where to find the gothrapocrypha and some info on what it will take to obtain it. We hope to get this process on film.
Of his madness many things are told. I, P. Emerson Williams, Ferenc Teglas and Aidan McGoran marauded mythic R'lly'yeh, or City of Pillocks, and to have found beneath the ruins of a certain nameless desert town the shocking annals and secrets of a race of atomic supermen older than humankind. They were only different Gothramaritans, worshipping unknown entities whom they called flogsogoth and necro cryptu.
As i stood here below, methought their eyes were four full moons: Ferenc Teglas and Aidan McGoran had a thousand noses; horns whelked and wavèd like the enridgèd sea: they were a pair of fiends. And I summoned again to stand before me Ferenc Teglas and Aidan McGoran, the burning idols of demons, and I sat them down on raised seats of honour, and said to them: "why art thou agog, Emperor ov Sonic Electronic Golems and Supreme Overlord ov Git-Fiddles of the necrofuturist veil of thorns?" and they said unto me: "because we alone are the great serpents that came down. for i was first angel in the first heaven" said one, being entitled Ferenczebub. "and I now control all who are bound in the GOTHRONOMICON being titled Aidancifer" said t'other. . .

About thee artist:
In his last years, Williams dwelt in Damask silk, where the Gothronomicon (O Az-If) was written.
In art, in the Dictionnaire Infernal, P. Emerson Williams is depicted as a crude man with dragon-like wings, hands and feet, a second pair of feathered wings after the main, wearing a crown, holding a serpent in one hand, and riding a wolf or hog.
The "good" P. Emerson in recent use is largely a literary device (e.g., Maxwell's P. Emerson), though references to good P. Emersons can be found in Hesiod and Shakespeare. In common language, to "P. Emersonize" a person means to characterize or portray them as evil, or as the source of evil.

Available Soon: DIAMOND DUST BLOWBACK Single
Here's a little progress report on the Veil of Thorns tracks. Coming right up, we'll be releasing another single, the cover for which you can see above. The mix of the "A Side", as it were is complete and a couple remixes are in the works. We may throw in a remix of an existing Veil of Thorns track as well. These mixes are about 80% there. This should be coming in the next week or two.
Now, perhaps a few words on what we're up to are in order. To start with the usual vagueness, part of the larger project has to do some stuff with some graveyard footage, actors, poetry, fiction art and more...
The plan with these singles is to release one or two songs at a time, with a lot of extras. This is part of the process of creating the next album. Those who collect the singles are helping fund operations. More than that, with the singles is a ton of exclusive material, including art, short stories, and videos, to mention a few. The more we can bring in, the more ambitious we can get with packaging, collaborative partners and more. The more you buy, share, stream on Spotify or wherever you like to get your music, play on your radio shows, podcasts and spin in clubs, the better what we create will be. If you do play our music on your show, podcast etc. let us know so we can spread your links around.
Keep an eye on this space and on PANICMACHINE, for much is in store and updates should be coming early and often.

Follow Strange Factories on Facebook!
There are creative endeavours, film projects, theatre productions, mythological examinations, transmedia experiences, works that offer psychological insights, part of or particles of sand in the shell of the zeitgeist that grow into pearls. FoolishPeople are on a path with Strange Factories that encompasses all of the above, but is also so much more. Strange Factories is something to which anyone who appreciates the pushing of artistic boundaries in film and art has to pay attention.
Strange Factories - HD Trailer from FoolishPeople on Vimeo.
We are not in the most critical need of another entertainment product in our mediated age, and life-changing and challenging encounters with art has to bring us beyond the marketer-colonized world of transmedia. You are invited into the world of Strange Factories, a place in which you will confront your own self in the most real terms.
A writer, haunted by an idea for a new story hunts for four refugee performers of a theatre destroyed in a mysterious fire.
He locates his friends in a remote, pagan settlement founded by Stronheim; owner of a Strange Factory hidden deep in the local countryside that emits an infamous Hum.
Victor enters into a dangerous pact when a vow is made to re-build their theatre if the story is completed in time for it to be performed at the village festival, where bizarre rituals are enacted by the Villagers under the influence of a hallucinogenic effluence siphoned out of the Strange Factory.
Victor’s imagination and the fragmented memories of his friends collide in a violent fiction that not everyone can survive.
Strange Factories’ is an immersive feature film; a uniquely powerful and original project that fuses cinema with a dreamlike environment to create an experience like no other.
Principal photography on Strange Factories was completed in Prague and the UK in October 2011 and is currently in post-production with release scheduled for 2012.
It is my great privilege to be part of the FoolishPeople family. Many of you have come to me to tell me how deeply you have been touched by the releases Salon Apocalypse and Necrofuturist. Neither of these albums would have been possible if not for my having been allowed to work on Cirxus, Abattoir Pages, A Red Threatening Sky, The Basement and having been a part of the magickal world of FoolishPeople for the last few years.

A Few Selected P. Emerson Williams Writings on Goth
A conversation with Louis DeWray On Behalf of NOSFERATU
When one speaks of bands representing capital G goth, no better example can be found than Nosferatu. With this, that and the other hyphenated fashion take on goth coming and going in the over two decades of the band’s existence they never compromised their fundamental dark and romantic style. Their fans remain loyal and in return Nosferatu are no less loyal to their audience and to the edifice of dark art they have built. That ‘Wonderland’, their latest album shot to the top spot of the dark wave charts on Amazon UK attests to the depth of this symbiotic relationship.
A week after a triumphant performance at WGT Nosferatu front man Louis DeWray was viciously assaulted, bringing up ugly memories of the attack on Sophie Lancaster. «As you may have read, I’ve had a somewhat difficult week…» is how he put it to me. With characteristic kindness and strength of character he shared his thoughts on Nosferatu’s long awaited return, the goth scene and hipsters among other things just a few days after the attack. Louts, thugs and reactionaries notwithstanding, Louis DeWray shows that Nosferatu and goths are here to stay. We pull together in support during hard times, just as we do under happier circumstances. The attack has made every member of Nosferatu all the more determined to play a great gig at DV8 (UK) and Castle Party (Poland) in a week’s time. “Luckily my spirit is stronger than my jaw!” Louis DeWray said to me. “It was a sad irony that at least one of us was wearing a ‘Sophie’ wristband when we were attacked…”
Read the interview at Dominion Magazine.
The armies of the dark returned last year. Really. The goth aesthetic, dark sounds, grabs tastemakers by their smug throats as silhouettes of hipsters can be seen, dancing among the graves as the world heats up and economies wobble on their precarious perches. The Quietus, Pitchfork and Stereogum are directing a surprisingly unironic gaze at artists waving an undeniably gothic banner. Post-punk is invoked in descriptions of more ‘band to watch’ blogotronic hosannas than one could reasonably keep up with. The thing about this return is that it’s news, to those of us who have stayed with the scene, that it ever went away.
Read the rest of the article at Dominion Mag.
Dream Quest of Unknown GaGoth
My article this week for Dominion Mag pointed out a new appreciation for things goth, darkwave and generally creepy and went into some questions that arose as I looked the situation over. Some answers presented themselves as I wrote, more from reactions to the piece and this acknowlegment of dark creative endeavours contiues to spread with no signs of slowing down. Later this month, the ICA wioll gather boffins together to dissect gothic manifestations of culture in their two day meditation Template for Terror: The Revival of the Gothic.
Quoth the ICA event page:
From Dracula and Frankenstein to Twilight and Shaun of the Dead, contemporary culture continues to appropriate the stock themes of the eighteenth and nineteenth century gothic novel. This weekend of panel discussions, presentations and screenings will explore the societal impulse that draws us to the darker side of life, looking at the influence of the gothic in contemporary art, literature, film and music.

A Music Section Has Been Added
We just added a music section to the site where you can stream or buy downloads of many albums. Some of these releases have been given some loving re-mastering treatment and keep checking back for some exclusive and some free releases. This is just the start.
Eventually we'll have the full Veil of Thorns discography up there, as well as related projects, like the full discography of Choronzon and a few treats that are in the deal making stage. More on that as soon as things have been solidified. New editions of old CD's are in the works and two Veil of Thorns releases are in the works.

Veil of Thorns - Necrofuturist - Mick Mercer Review
Inner-X-Musick
Scarified vocals sprawl across the densely packed shuffling ‘Thought Pollution Evolution’ and you can sense there’s an eagerness to be freshly mangled, the triphop and dark atmospherics come whispering and whistling, not gnashing or self-eviscerating. No ideas what it’s about but the mood is strangely contagious. When ‘Through The Fire’ also limbo dances under the tension-free guitar barbed wire you know we’re in for some fun, and this is another unusual but invigorating track. As our relieved and seemingly addled host guides us through ‘Standing’ it’s light, engaging and gentle. Then we fall into ‘The Vandals Exquisite Corpse’ and it gets a wee bit trickier. That’s a slithery mindwarp of a thing, the sounds clattering and rustling, only for ‘The Lifeless Trio Kept Playing’ to be an idyllic segment, and ‘Wailing In Glass’ warped rockist fare pootling along, gradually dispersing into sub-atomic ambient mulch. So, the whole world is here.
A brief ‘Waltz’ verges on blistered Americana, ‘Pleasure In Nightmare’ keeps circling, bathing in its own perspiration, before an equally intoxicating ‘Giving Ascent’ digs in deftly for some dancey machinations, with a discreet sense of fun rather than flashing the rhythm around. Here we are in fertile dark indie territory, both filmic and mood-enhancing. ‘Dancing Revelation’, of course, moves away sideways, lightly aggrieved instead of inclusive. ‘Let Loose Into That Good Mourning’ is an interestingly gloomy soundscape where the machines seem to have won but find themselves down in the dumps. ‘The Reflection’ is the opposite, a lazily beautiful twilight night sky, with ‘Deny Fascination’ just as inviting, for all the disguised vocal intent. Things have got looser for a while in the VOT world and relaxation does wonders.
They do appear to be dropping slowly into the abyss for the groaning ambient doldrums of ‘The Only One Left’, like whalesong at closing time. In the skittish ‘Die As One’ it’s all very clandestine and chilled, the energy locked down tight as it bustles past on an espionage-fuelled mission.
‘Entertainments Subsume Concern’ sounds like a panel show doomed to failure, and it does appear to sound like a repair man trapped inside a cathedral organ, trying to fight his way out.
We’re into gloopier electronic sounds as ‘Head Up Get Out’ wibbles around over a toxic bassline and we’re ushered out by ‘The Dead Channel’ which is more restrained but shadowy fare, vocals unwelcome visitors in an imposing room staffed by jazz-obsessed ghosts.
Definitely one of the weirder Veil Of Thorns offerings, because of its orderly approach, and really quite lovely.
