Here's a little progress report on the Veil of Thorns tracks. Coming right up, we'll be releasing another single, the cover for which you can see above. The mix of the "A Side", as it were is complete and a couple remixes are in the works. We may throw in a remix of an existing Veil of Thorns track as well. These mixes are about 80% there. This should be coming in the next week or two.

Now, perhaps a few words on what we're up to are in order. To start with the usual vagueness, part of the larger project has to do some stuff with some graveyard footage, actors, poetry, fiction art and more...

The dreaded GOTHRONOMICON has been brought to us and is being translated by mute scribes and the content held therein tested by fearless and skilled mages, though a few have been lost between space... We have a tip on where to find the Gothrapocrypha and some info on what it will take to obtain it. We hope to get this process on film.

The plan with these singles is to release one or two songs at a time, with a lot of extras. This is part of the process of creating the next album. Those who collect the singles are helping fund operations. More than that, with the singles is a ton of exclusive material, including art, short stories, and videos, to mention a few. The more we can bring in, the more ambitious we can get with packaging, collaborative partners and more.  The more you buy, share, stream on Spotify or wherever you like to get your music, play on your radio shows, podcasts and spin in clubs, the better what we create will be. It's here, the first new music from Veil of Thorns in quite some time. The first of several planned "singles" from the band. (Six trax spanning 38 minutes can be considered a single by today's malleable standards. And at $2, you get a lot.) to the band's official pronouncement The Girl Without A Face is: A story ripped from thee pages ov thee dreaded GOTHRONOMICON!

And previews of material and contracts connected with this project is not on paper, but on something which seems to react to the touch, like it's alive and reading our souls as we handle it...

The Girl Without A Face Includes remixes by Veil of Thorns members P. Emerson Williams and Ferenc Teglas and other gems were wrought by a few elusive and mysterious artists. Like the Bath Salts Mix - from Grave Knave - soundz kinda like codeine, actually. Maybe this is the comedown... Veil of Thorns give Big Thanx to Grave Knave for the rough treatment. Hive Mind Drones bring the sound of at the minimum mass hysteria to their mix, of not something more harrowing and sinister. On the final Drone Mix, Solar Sound System got abrasively meditative on the track...

A whole lotta art is going to be created as part of the upcoming Veil of Thorns release(s). Dissemination shall happen through digital, print and sale of originals. Something very strange is developing in the form the lyrical/prose aspect and odd goings on have been spotted on Emerson's estate...

NOSFERATU And TXTBK’s CH▼ЯCH X▼ BЯXK3N 7▲NG▼▲G3

Well, here's one for an evening filled with dark sounds, the like of which have never vibrated in this universe before...

First up, our original score for NOSFERATU (1922)!! We created the score for the silent classic NOSFERATU back in 2005. Over the years, a number of people have asked if we could release the music on its own. The original session files were thought lost forever, but a valued supporter had stored the files in WAV format on a now shut down cyber locker and managed to keep a local copy. Now remastered, we're finally bringing this forth.

Because P. Emerson Williams can leave no idle idea alone, he created a soundtrack to "Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror", the silent masterpiece by F.W. Murnau. Dozens of folks have done the same, but we're proud to present this version.

The approach was inspired by the Dogme 95 manifesto. Now, using so much technology probably makes it anathema to its adherents, but Emerson's mode of working is never pure, but, Harmony Korinne fanatic that he be, he felt an affinity to the movement. Several obstructions were placed on the process. The first rule was only to use sounds he already had on his hard drive. This was easy, as what he had taking up space were the audio tracks from the Veil Of Thorns album he had just completed (Manifestation Objective). What you'll hear is 90% vocals with much less processing than it sounds like. Secondly, he gave himself a time limit of eight hours to create and sync the audio to the video file. "It actually took longer to render the movie than it took to write the music(k)", saith P. Emerson "which was fine, as I had lots of drawing I wanted to get done."

This was the first film of the production company Prana-Film GmbH; it was also the last as they declared bankruptcy after Bram Stoker's estate—acting for his widow, Florence Stoker sued for copyright infringement (plagiarism) and won. The court ordered all existing prints of Nosferatu destroyed, but a number of copies of the film had already been distributed around the world. These prints were then copied over the years, resulting in Nosferatu gaining a reputation as one of the greatest movie adaptations of the vampire legend.

With the influence of producer and production designer, Albin Grau, the film established one of two main lines of vampire depiction in movies. The "Nosferatu-type" is a living corpse with rodent features (especially elongated fingernails and incisors), associated with rats and plague, and neither charming nor erotic but totally repugnant. The victims usually die and are not turned into vampires themselves. The more common other line is the "Dracula-type" (established by Bela Lugosi's version of Dracula and perpetuated by Christopher Lee), a charming aristocrat adept at seduction and turning his victims into new vampires.

A Music Section Has Been Added

We just added a music section to the site where you can stream or buy downloads of many albums. Some of these releases have been given some loving re-mastering treatment and keep checking back for some exclusive and some free releases. This is just the start.

Eventually we'll have the full Veil of Thorns discography up there, as well as related projects, like the full discography of Choronzon and a few treats that are in the deal making stage. More on that as soon as things have been solidified. New editions of old CD's are in the works and two Veil of Thorns releases are in the works.

A Fine Elucidation of the Mythosphere: The Mindscape of Alan Moore

Alan Moore is the world's most critically acclaimed author of comic books. In this film, we see a portrait of the artist as contemporary shaman, someone with the power to transform consciousness by means of manipulating language, symbols and images.

I'd be hard pressed to find a better example of an artist who makes conscious use of myth and magick than Alan Moore. We can see all around us how prescient he's been, and through his work the thoughtful reader can read the myths with which we're continually pummelled by big media, politics and religion.

Narrated by Sean Penn and based on the work of media critic and best- selling author Norman Solomon, who traveled with Penn to Baghdad just before the war to call attention to the dangers of a U.S. invasion, WAR MADE EASY reaches into the Orwellian memory hole to expose 50 years of government spin and media collusion that has dragged our country into one war after another from Vietnam to Iraq. With remarkable archival footage of official distortion and exaggeration from LBJ to George W. Bush, the documentary exposes how presidential administrations of both parties have relied on a combination of deception and media complicity to sell one war after another to the American people.

This is one of many examples of how we are manipulated and distracted. I would point to Adam Curtis' brilliant documentary series The Century of the Self for more insight. Now, where it is valuable to shine the light on the unconscious parts of culture and mass consciousness, I would argue that the role of artists and musicians engaged in the purest kind of exploration of art and self is more important. Even more important is how each individual engages with these ideas and most important is that everyone is free in their creativity and shaping of their world, "artist" or not.

Grant Morrison could be one of the most important people you've never heard of, an inventive comic book writer who's practically a god among hardcore fans for spawning titles like Batman RIP, The Invisibles, All Star Superman and The New X-Men.

And to round out this trio of illusion, dissolution and creative collusion, we have more comics, more magick and the kind of psychedelia we try to bring to Veil of Thorns in sound and sight.

Now, the first and third examples represent artists tapping into the mythosphere very effectively and eloquently. We've been playing with the elements of myth and narrative over the last twenty years, but perhaps we need to reveal the pattern. It is my tendency to be opaque and cryptic, but the number of people who have come to me to tell me that they saw the threads of the story Veil of Thorns has been telling reveal where some clarity could make our art stronger. Where this thought is taking us will soon be revealed.

P. Emerson Williams is a visionary artist and illustrator, whose work has been displayed in galleries and events in Norway, Scotland, Boston, New Orleans, Salt Lake City, Florida and London. His illustrations have also appeared in countless publications, as the artist in residence at Ghastly magazine and as the illustrator for many other Goth and occult publications from California to Virginia, and Lithuania, England and Finland to Colombia, as well as covers for sevel titles from Original Falcon and Leilah Wendell’s book «Necromance». His art can be seen on the front cover of SLEEPCHAMBER’S return to action release “Socery, Spellls, and Serpent Charms”, as well as the Zewizz tribute releases “That’s Romance” (both part 1 and 2). He is a core member of FoolishPeople starting from London productions of Cirxus and The Abattoir Pages and continuing with the forthcoming A Red Threatening Sky on other projects in the works.

Williams’ experimental Gothic.Industrial act VEIL OF THORNS is approaching the twenty year mark in their career, and they continue to build on an ever expanding palette with «salon Apocalypse» and «Necrofuturist». Veil Of Thorns began as a Goth band in the early 90’s club scene in Boston but steadily moved toward a more eclectic sound. Not afraid to use any influence – you will hear styling’s of goth, hip hop, industrial, classical, and just about the whole kitchen sink. In 2009, VEIL OF THORNS formed a creative alliance with Inner-X-Musick, the label and music distributor run by the infamous John Zewizz of SLEEPCHAMBER fame.

Coming to fruition in 2010 are two releases from CHORONZON, P. Emerson Williams’ chaotic project whose twin roots lie in industrial and black metal music. CHORONZON, began as two separate and entirely unrelated projects with the same name: the eastern half was a Boston/Florida based black metal-styled band formed in 1986 by P. Emerson Williams, while its western counterpart was the San Francisco old school industrial project of Demimonde Mesila Thraam. In 2002, the two respective CHORONZONs became aware of each other via the internet, and agreed to share use of the name, before going still further and collaborating musically.

Prior to the merging of CHORONZONs, the East Coast CHORONZON released of a series of self produced cassettes before being signed to the record label Nocturnal Art Productions in 1998, and released the album «Magog Agog». Three more albums followed, in which the sound moved further away from conventional black metal into industrial and experimental territories. The first release from the conjoined CHORONZON was the double album New World Chaos, produced in 2005.

If that is not enough, P. Emerson Williams has more bubbling under the surface. Keep an eye out for renewed and exponential activity from kkoagulaa and Mythos Media in the coming year and the move of Necrofuturist {TRANS}_Mission, his radio show on Radio Nightbreed from web streaming to Sirius/XM sattelite radio.

The G-Spot Episode #4

This was another step in the creation process for Cognitive Dissonance, taking the Cognitive Dissonance Prolix posts and turning it into a series of strange dialogues. In the process I managed to take the thousands of words I'd written out and begin restructuring as verses and shorter bits.

My fine colleagues at Alterati.com let me hijack the show and with the help of James Curcio and Anna Young, what you can hear here was dramatized:

This unique episode takes you through a number of open-ended tales, told by the voices of a schizophrenic internal monologue. It can be taken as the voices in the mind of a sleeper, on the brink of sleep, or a mental patient, strapped into a bed in a moldy room in an asylum. Maybe these events happened, or have yet to happen. That’s for you to decide.

In addition to your loving host, this show features the voice acting talents of P. Emerson Williams and Anna Young, and the music includes much atmospheric material from Veil of Thorns and Ariana van Gelder.

Here are the first embryonic early tracks interspersed with short P. Emersonite bursts for you, my darlings. Vocalists don't usually like to have anyone hear anything but the most spot on, confident performances, but I'm going for a feeling and a story, and these are my sketches.

The mixes are my usual thick and resonating things, as they were before I sent them off to the masterful mastering of Ari. Contents need to be decanted as they may throw off a sediment....

A Smattering of Updates

The news about the Pirate Bay conviction has gone all over the web over the last few days, and I was asked to weigh in over at Computer Shopper magazine after which I felt compelled to expand on my thoughts. We would appreciate it if everyone reading this would download the torrent, seed it for as long as you can to keep it alive and pass the torrent along. I would love to get a conversation going about every aspect of this issue. We're all in flux, and creativity in all things is needed more than ever.

There is a thought that occurs to me as I drive past the many gated communities in this ritzy area of Florida. I'm glad the real estate speculators, Disney executives and yuppies are walled in and kept safely from the rest of us. We just need to lock the gates from the outside. I would love to see the major labels and movie studios come up with the perfect impregnable DRM, so they can be left to rot within their walled gardens.

This time is the best possible opportunity for true artists to get creative with ways to make a living. Under the old label system, it was mainly the few, the malleable, the aspirational among artists who benefitted. The RIAA argument that piracy hinders artists from making a living is bollocks. Music has always been a hard gig, it's just that now the majority are on the treadmill of writing, production, release and touring for themselves instead of a group of suits who lend them cash in return for the artists indenture.

This torrent was created to show dissent with the ruling, and in the spirit of freedom, that creative chaos which hidebound institutions fight with the impulse for stasis and death.

Music For Driving At Night

Nobody asked me to, but I haven't thrown out a random music podcast in a while, so I thought a little something for this fine evening might be aiight.



This is a collection of some of the music I have composed thus far in 2008. Everything in this podcast was created for the audiobook of Fallen Nation which is being podcast on Alterati.com.

In coming up with soundtrack music, I work in a wide array of styles, which is extremely rewarding, creatively. What the narrative calls for takes me outside my habitual sonic territory and forces me to rethink my approach every time.

I'd like to know what y'all think about this little cross section. It's a small amount of recent work, but an eight hour file is a lot to ask any one to listen to.
